NEW BLOG
Please to be updating your links and what-not. Kthx.
I have been tagged by Anushka to write 7 things about me:
The rules: each player starts with 7 random fact about themselves on their Blog. People who are tagged need to blog 7 facts about themselves and post the rules as well. At the end of their blog list 7 people you are tagging. Let them know that they are tagged by leaving them a comment.
1. I don't start things for fear of not being able to finish them. This goes for books, piano pieces, knitting patterns etc. Mostly creative and/or intellectual pursuits. I don't like to fail as I feel like I'm disappointing someone, so I often do not even begin to attempt things. I also feel terribly disappointed in myself when I fail at something like this as it's the only thing I've ever had any real aptitude for. Recently I have begun to challenge myself more. Which is a good thing. I've started to accept my short comings and improve my weak points.
2. I should be writing an essay. To accompany my masters application. I have applied to do a masters in Museums and Galleries: The History of Textiles and Dress. Currently I am supposed to be writing an essay about the connotations of the word "knitting", and how a textile can have multiple and competing histories. It's actually rather fun. But then, I thought that about music when I started my degree.
3. I dislike attention and/or recognition. I dislike people looking at me, and I get nervous when people praise me. Recently I got a payrise at work, which was a big surprise (cut backs are being made because the budget is being reduced). No one else got a payrise. For a while I was quite impressed, but I later began to feel like a fraud.
4. I like reading. I like reading a lot, but I haven't had much time in recent years. Knitting and crafting gets in the way a bit, and I suspect that I am not quite intelligent enough to have many different hobbies. I have begun to read a lot again in my lunch hour. This is also good for getting people to leave me alone. I know it's sounds horribly antisocial but there it is. I don't have much in common with the people I work with as they have all been in admin since they were about 16. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing or is any less worth than going to university, it's just different. I would like to stress this. My mother tells me I think I'm better than other people. I suspect my colleagues think I'm a bit of a loner geek. Which may well be true. Of course, they've never seen me drunk.
5. I like gin. Gin and tonic or, my personal favourite, gin and squash. My good friend Margaret introduced me to this drink way back when. It's like squash but with a bit of a kick.
6. I'm going out for a curry on Friday. With Matt, Rich, Craig, and Carly. This will remind me of the good old days of second year. I met Rich and Craig on Valentines day 2005 (?). I went for a drink with Matt and they came along too. Happy times. Matt is going back to Basingstoke now, and Craig is off to travel the world.
7. I'm a part of Stagesoc. The university's back stage society. And I like it very much :)
I have yarn with which to make the reknowned Eunny's Anemoi mittens!
The main colour shall be an off white, and the pattern will be in an almost rust colour. I just hope I've got the right size needles....
I thought I had found something to do with my debbie bliss baby cashmerino, but no such luck.
Any ideas with what I can do with this fabulouso yarn?
Finally, I get around to posting a picture of my dress. The night was, frankly, bizarre. I drank too much, danced a lot, kissed one too many boys-who-don't-like-me, and can not remember enough of the night.
This is possibly the best picture I have of the dress.
I am the one in the deep purple, second from the left. (Your left).
I hate endings.
I have a ball on the 29th of April, for which I have made a dress, it needs taking in. This is a good thing, but also a bad thing, as I just can't be bothered with it. I know I should just do it, and then I don't have it hanging over me like a big black cloud. (Well, a big purple, starry cloud - it's so cute). But, *sigh* I have a full time job and a social life, and the sewing gets lost some where between the two.
Perhaps on Tuesday I will have the time to sit down and do it.
I went to town after work today to find a dress to wear to a family event on Tuesday. I've lost weight recently and I've begun feeling not totally crap about the way I look.
Everything I tried on made me look pregnant, or just like a sack of potatoes. The dress I really wanted had the effect of making my breasts look like they were trying to take over the earth.
*sigh*
I really hate off the rail stuff. It always looks so nice on the hangers, but when I try it on it looks rubbish! Well, no I don't hate the clothes, I hate my oddly proportioned body.
I would ask if anyone knew where I could find some cool and groovy sewing patterns, but I'm not entirely convinced anyone reads this anymore.
Of course there have been things happening. Not just in the crafty side of things.
Since I last posted anything of significance I have:
broken up with boyfriend (hurrah).
fallen deeply in love (yes, this is sarcasm. In truth I am somewhat infatuated with a Nice Young Man. But my affections are unrequited, alas).
Crewed shows.
Bonded with the maternal unit.
Signed the contract for my new house (yippeee!)
Spent all my money on yarn and sewing things.
Things I have been making:
Nush's swing cardigan (although I'm not supposed to be talking about it!)
Dress for the PAU ball.
I also bought 4 balls of Debbie Bliss Soho in my lunch break to make the newsboy cap from SnBN. (In the purple/pink colour).
But the yarn is hot anyway.
It's not quite so florescent in colour. It's a mix between the two photos.
I have decided to call it Cornflower Crossing as that is the colour of the yarn.
Personally, I'd call it medium blue but what ever floats your boat, eh?
At work the desks are arranged in groups of four - "pods" they are called. On my pod, there is only me and another temp. My "pod" is on the end of the row of "pods". Three of the four people on the pod next to ours go home at 4pm, the other is another temp. Up to 4.30pm, I can usually be found hiding in the post room, sending post to people who work from home. From 4.30pm til I leave, I can scribble designs on my note pad. Today I decided on the basic shape for the front of my Baby Cashmerino top. I really hate my job, but I really love the fact that they leave us unsupervised with no pressing work to do.
The top really needs a name. Any ideas?
Last night I was a bad girl. I ordered yarn. Even though I have no money. I should have yarn enough now to make Bianca's Jacket (in yellow) and Coral Crossing (in blue). Because obviously I don't already have enough yarn.
